Tell Congress to keep asylum seekers safe

For four years, the Trump administration has unlawfully expelled asylum seekers and denied them due process in violation of U.S. and international legal obligations. Most recently, under the guise of preventing the spread of COVID-19, the administration closed the U.S. borders to "non-essential traffic" which included turning away asylum seekers, giving them no chance to make their legal case for protection.

Seeking asylum is legal - even during a pandemic. No one should be criminalized or punished simply for exercising this right.

The Biden administration and Congress must repair the broken asylum system in the U.S. — recognizing that it is legal to seek asylum; halting deportations without due process; and investing in a new system to keep asylum seekers safe until their case is heard.

Join the International Rescue Committee as we call on our nation's leaders to repair the damage done to the asylum system over the last four years, reunite families and ensure that the U.S. never again turns its back on the world's most vulnerable people. Our team works alongside our supporters to fight for policies that deliver real change for the people we serve.
