Tell Governor Brown to Sign Ban on Ex-Gay Therapy

  • mottagare: Governor Jerry Brown
Every day, GLBT children and teenagers hear the same message: fix yourselves, or we'll do it for you. So-called ex-gay therapy has become a traumatic, common practice for attempting to "fix" these minors' orientations.

However, a groundbreaking new bill makes it illegal for licensed healthcare professionals in California to subject anyone under the age of 18 to "conversion" psychotherapy. This bill has the potential to influence other states to follow suit and ban similar psychologically unsound intervention.

No scientific studies have found sexual orientation change therapy to be effective. On the contrary, treatment can cause lifelong damage. California needs to stop treating non-heteronormative sexuality as mental illness.

Tell Governor Brown to sign this bill into law and help protect California's youth from further psychological abuse.
Dear Governor Brown,

Studies have proven sexual orientation "conversion" therapies to cause lifelong psychological damage, and no scientific evidence exists that proves them effective. Banning this practice is vital to the wellbeing of California's GLBT youth.

I urge you to sign this bill into law and stop the psychological abuse ex-gay therapy inflicts on California's youth.
