Stop Child Marriage in Niger and Help Girls Stay in School

Too many girls around the world are not getting the education they deserve. In some countries, like Niger, child marriage is one of the main reasons why girls are dropping out of school.

Child marriage is still legal in Niger. 40% of girls in Niger are married before they’re 15 years old. And as a result of getting married young, many girls drop out of school which has a devastating impact on the rest of their lives. In Niger, only 15% of women can read and write. To put that into context, in Australia we have a 96% literacy rate for both men and women.

The Australian Government says they are opposed to child marriage and has signed up to a global agreement to end child marriage, but we can do more.

Sign this petition to call on our Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, to stand by our commitment to girls by ending harmful practices like child marriage and use Australian aid to help girls stay in school and reach their full potential.
