Empower Women to Overcome Poverty and Become Community Leaders

Shola remembers a time when she couldn't get a loan to pay for her baby's visit to the local health clinic in Ethiopia.

Shola is part of the 70% of people living in extremely poverty worldwide, a struggle that disproportionately impacts women and girls. Women often lack basic human rights and have little access to economic opportunities, resources, education and participation in the decision-making process.

The empowerment of women is critical for future leaders like Shola to overcome poverty. Through PCI's Women Empowered (WE) Initiative, women are banding together, pooling their resources, and changing their future. With a loan from her WE group, Shola is not only providing health care for her child, she also started her own business selling incense at the local market.

Right now, it's more important than ever to give women around the world access to the resources they need to lift themselves and their families out of poverty. Ask the U.N. to lift up women around the world by fully supporting legislation that promotes women's rights and access to economic resources.
