Tell Grocers to Supply Certified Humane® Turkeys

Thanks to consumer demand, many chicken farmers, hog farmers and other food suppliers now comply with Certified Humane® standards. This means their animals get ample space to move around and aren't inundated with antibiotics.

But there have been no turkey producers meeting Certified Humane® standards.

Grocery chains Whole Foods and Trader Joe's can ask their turkey suppliers to be Certified Humane®. As a consumer, you can makes the biggest impact on treatment of turkeys by asking retailers to offer turkeys and turkey products that are Certified Humane®.

In order to have a supply of Certified Humane® turkeys by Thanksgiving, stores need to put the pressure on their suppliers NOW. Take action -- Tell Whole Foods and Trader Joe's you would like to buy a Certified Humane® turkey for Thanksgiving.
Dear [Decision Maker],

Many chicken producers, hog farmers and other food suppliers have complied with Humane Farm Animal Care's (HFAC) Certified Humane® standards. But to this day HFAC has not been able to identify turkey farmers that meet its standards, especially the space standard.

Space is a challenge for turkey producers because the birds are very large, but it's important that producers treat their animals humanely, no matter the size. Companies like yours can use your buying power to encourage farmers to comply with humane standards.

Please, do your part to promote humane treatment of turkeys by carrying Certified Humane® turkeys and turkey products. We would like to see Certified Humane® turkeys in your stores by Thanksgiving.

Thank you for you time.
