All Families Deserve Clean, Safe Water

More than 2.2 million children die every year -- that's 4 every minute -- as a result of diarrhea caused by poor sanitation and hygiene. 90% of deaths related to unsafe water and sanitation are children under 5.

Diseases from unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.

In Canada, we can't imagine not having access to clean, safe water. However, in developing countries, access to water can be a huge issue, especially for girls who are traditionally the ones left to walk long distances or line up for hours to collect water, often instead of attending school.

Access to clean water means much more than quenching thirst. Its impact is felt by every child and adult in the community.

World Water Day is around the corner on March 22, 2013. It's time we spoke out about this injustice. Take the pledge today and stand in support of programs that help children and their families have safe, easy access to clean water.
