Extend Support for the Jobless

A bill to extend jobless benefits was recently defeated in the U.S. House of Representatives, which means that two million jobless Americans could go hungry this holiday season.

The benefits for people out of work for more than six months expire on December 1, and Democratic lawmakers attempted to renew the benefits under fast-track rules. Unfortunately, those rules require a two-thirds vote to pass, and the measure failed despite a 258-154 majority.

Congress won't meet during the Thanksgiving holiday, so there's not much time to find a solution. Act today to tell lawmakers not to abandon America's jobless this holiday season.
I urge you to not abandon the jobless who will lose their unemployment benefits on December 1. Two million Americans could go hungry this holiday season if their benefits are not renewed.

America has not yet recovered from this economic downturn, and we need to step up as a country and do the right thing for those who've lost their jobs due Wall Street's excesses.

Let's do the right thing for America's jobless--renew the unemployment benefits due to expire this month.
