More than a thousand stray dogs have been poisoned to death. Stand with locals in demanding a stop to the inhumane killing!

A stray dog is identified on the street. Used to friendly interactions with neighborhood humans who feed and tend to it, the pup wanders up to a new stranger, not thinking anything's wrong. Then that human — a member of a government agency — grabs the dog, ties its legs shut, and poisons it to death.

This is how the government in Pakistan's capital city of Karachi is dealing with its stray dog population.

Sign the petition to stand with local dogs and residents, and demand an end to these grotesque culls!

The mass government-sponsored culling of street dogs commenced last month in March 2021, and already, authorities from the Health Department have killed more than 1,350 — most of which were poisoned. Officials killed upwards of 400 stray dogs on one single Saturday alone.

Neighborhood activists point out that a comprehensive spay-and-neuter program would be a much more humane and long-term effective way to reduce the number of stray dogs in the city. Yet it's clear the Karachi Health Department has no intention to change course. In fact, the legal provision that authorities are operating under says it allows officials to kill off these dogs in whatever lethal way they choose. According to one city activist, Barrister Manal Wasay, "The law specifically uses the word 'destroy'. It means that they can use any method to kill these animals."

Residents of Karachi are so disturbed by what their government is doing, they're taking to the streets to hold protests against these dog-murders. It's our duty to stand with them!

Tell the government of Karachi, Pakistan to immediately cease their mass cull of stray dogs!
