NYPD: Don't Charge Police-Beaten Man for Assault

Ehud H. Halevi was not loitering. He wasn't trespassing or disturbing anyone. But the Crown Heights synagogue that gave Halevi permission to sleep in its foyer became a crime scene when an anonymous phone call led to two NYPD officers to attack him.
Now, the NYPD is claiming Halevi assaulted them.
The bloody beating, which lasted for several minutes, involved a flurry of fists, mace, and a bludgeon. The officers were caught on tape approaching the man in an arguably aggressive manner, even though the man was obviously asleep.
The NYPD refused Halevi's request to prove the outreach center had granted him permission to sleep inside after he became homeless. Instead, they took the violent route and blamed the victim.
Assault on a police officer could land Halevi five years of jail time. Tell the NYPD to investigate this attack and bring justice to a man needlessly beaten by their officers.
Dear NYPD Commissioner Raymond Kelly,
The NYPD's recent attack on Ehud H. Halevi on account of him sleeping in the Aliyah Institute was appalling. I cannot understand why the two officers who accosted Halevi refused to let him prove that he had permission to be in the synagogue, or why they immediately took up the offense against him.
But worst of all is the accusation from the NYPD that Halevi assaulted the officers when footage presents the complete opposite. Acts like this diminish the overall safety of New York citizens and breach the trust civilians have in the NYPD.
[Your comments]I urge you to investigate these two officers' attack on Halevi and evaluate NYPD procedure when officers must deal with permits.
Sincerely,
