Fight Hunger in Schools

Nearly 1 billion people struggle with hunger every day, among the most vulnerable of those are children. For these kids, growing up hungry has a devastating and lasting impact. No child should go to school hungry, but school meals can give kids who receive them a brighter future.

Hunger is the world's most solvable problem. Parents in the world's poorest countries cannot always provide a meal for their children, but the World Food Program's school meals program provides a nutritious meal giving parents a good reason to send their children -- especially girls -- to school. They also help kids reach their full potential because they can focus on their studies, rather than their stomachs.

That's why WFP's school meals initiative is important. Where WFP already offers school meals, more kids go to school, stay in school longer and learn more. In addition to an education and a meal, kids have access to health screenings and HIV/AIDS education. Education is key to breaking the cycle of hunger.
