We want to ensure that as we grow older we all have the opportunity to live well with dignity, choice and purpose. Right now, this is not the case.  

People across the country are in daily pain during long waits for surgery. This impacts people aged 65 and over more than any other age group, as they need to use routine hospital care more often.

We know that waiting for treatment can be distressing. As well as managing severe pain, people waiting for surgery can also experience loneliness and anxiety. 

For people to be enabled to wait well, personalised support needs to be in place.

That's why we're calling on the Department of Health and Social Care and the NHS to work together and make sure everyone who is waiting for six months or longer for treatment has a personalised care and management plan.
