A Boat Carrying Thousands of Sheep and Goats Caught Fire and Sank, Causing Every Animal to Die a Gruesome Death. Ban Live Animal Exports!

We know that live animal exports are cruel.

Raising livestock like cows, goats, or sheep, just to send them on a horrific, often weeks-long journey in deplorable conditions, to then be slaughtered at the end is simply an inhumane, inefficient process that causes immense animal suffering.

But even though we know this in theory, it never prepares us for when tragedy strikes, like what happened recently off the coast of Oman.

A ship was carrying around 4,000 sheep and goats from the United Arab Emirates to Somalia. But then, the ship caught fire. Every person aboard was rescued, but the thousands of innocent animals were left to either die from smoke inhalation, burning, or drowning as the ship burned and sank into the ocean.

Sign the petition and demand that the United Arab Emirates learn from this tragedy and end all live animal exports once and for all!

On a live animal export, animals experience something that is as close to hell as you can imagine.

They are boarded onto vessels, crammed into enclosures where they have barely enough room to move or lay down. There is little to no temperature control, since these animals are seen as cargo rather than living, breathing, feeling things -- so often, they are left in boiling heat or freezing cold. Animals are rarely given regular access to food or water on these trips, no comfort or relief from hunger or thirst. And that's all just business as usual.

The tragedy that happened off the coast of Oman is deeply concerning, and not all that rare.
These live animal exports often run into issues that result in massive amounts of painful animal death. So why are we still allowing them?

It would make much more sense for animals to stay where they were born throughout their lifecycle, instead of being transported for countless, painful miles just to be either slaughtered or killed in a horrible accident.

That's why we're asking that the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Climate Change and Environment commit to phasing out live animal exports, and be part of the global movement to end this cruel practice! Sign the petition if you want to ensure a tragedy like this never happens again!
