Don't Let Republicans Force a Government Shutdown

As the U.S. moves closer to a government shutdown every day, Republicans seem content to let it happen if they don't get their way.

Tea Party Republicans have made their demands clear: Slash education, defund Planned Parenthood, silence NPR, and neuter the EPA or they'll shut down the whole government.

All told, Republicans' radical H.R. 1 bill would cost us 700,000 American jobs -- including everything from teachers to public safety officers to researchers and nurses. Republicans see no need to compromise, especially since lawmakers will still receive paychecks during the shutdown.

Tell Speaker of the House John Boehner his Republican colleagues to do what it takes to avoid a government shutdown.
Dear Speaker,

As the deadline for an agreement draws nearer and a government shutdown seems inevitable, I urge you to consider the American families that trust you to do what is right for them, not to put them out of work.

Put the interests of U.S. citizens first and do what it takes to avoid a government shutdown.
