Academic Professionals Deserve Fairness & Equity
Academic Professional faculty at PSU are woefully underpaid, overworked, and underappreciated. We must come together and demand that we have the right to job security, professional development opportunities, reward for good work and equitable pay.
Dear PSU Academic Professional:
On August 3, 2005 the AAUP and PSU Bargaining Teams met and discussed issues surrounding Academic Professional Faculty.
The PSU-AAUP Team proposed new language in Article 17 (Academic Professional Faculty) covering sabbatical eligibility, job security in the form of rolling contracts, equitable pay, flexible work schedules and professional development.
During the discussion, the administration made it clear that Academic Professionals were not a priority.
- In response to forming a committee to review the Academic Professional Job Family and salary ranges Not a priority.
- In response to creating more equitable ways to distribute faculty development funds to Academic Professionals Were hesitant.
- In response to job security in the form of rolling contracts for Academic Professionals Were not willing to pursue.
- In response to a proposal to extend Sabbatical opportunities to Academic Professionals Were not Interested.
- In response to protecting performance increases for a handful of Academic Professionals who are paid slightly higher than their Job Family maximum We dont feel comfortable.
The PSU Administration did agree to work to better educate individuals about flexible work schedule options and increase manager training. But, overall, the issues that were brought forth by Academic Professionals in the AAUP survey and focus groups were ignored.
As Academic Professionals we must come together and demand that we have the right to job security, professional development opportunities, reward for good work and equitable pay.
Be a voice for fairness and equity. Please take a moment to sign this petition.
Respectfully Submitted,

From: PSU Academic Professional Faculty Members
We are concerned that the PSU Administration is not interested in improving the salaries and working conditions of Academic Professional Faculty.
We the undersigned believe that Academic Professionals have the right to:
- Job Security
- Professional Development Opportunities
- Reward for Good Work
- Equitable Pay
- Professional Treatment in the Workplace
It is our hope that the Portland State University Administration will make a good faith effort to address these issues in 2005-2007 Collective Bargaining negotiations.
