Don't Protect Drivers Who Run Over Protesters

  • mottagare: State Governors
In both Charlottesville and St.Louis, violent terrorists have tried to kill protesters with their cars. Heather Heyer was slain in Charlottesville while protesting the racist "Unite the Right" rally. In St. Louis, protesters uniting for trans equality were also attacked by a driver attempting to run into them. However, lawmakers in North Carolina, Tennessee, and Rhode Island have proposed legislation that would provide some legal protections for drivers who hit protesters.

Trying to protect drivers who injure protesters is not an expedient or appropriate use of our legislator's time - and could inadvertently protect those who do want to cause harm to protesters by providing them a legal loophole as a means of avoiding prosecution.

The focus of our political leaders should be protecting people who stand up against intolerance, white supremacy, and fascists - like Heather Heyer did in Charlottesville or those who stood up for trans lives in St.Louis.

Tell the governors of these states to veto any legislation that provides legal relief to those who harm protesters with their car.
