CCRI administration: spend a day in the lives of handicap students! Accessibility is a right not a financial decision!

Daily we take for granted our ability to manage every day tasks independently because our bodies automatically just do them. When we are not forced to think about how to perform a task without the use of a needed body part, it is easy to forget that there are millions of people who are struggling every day to adapt due to a disability out of their control. Modern technology has come leaps and bounds since the first person was placed in a wheelchair for every day mobility, they may be dependent on wheels to move but with advances they are no longer required to be dependent. Sadly many institutions have failed to see the independent side of a student; blinded by the financial aspect involved in technology. I challenge all of the the administration and those in charge of designs at the Community College of Rhode Island to spend 2 work days on campus confined to a wheelchair and document their results. The hope is to raise awareness on the lack of opportunities on the individual campuses for the students to maintain that important level of independence required once they graduate and begin their careers. The issue has been addressed and ignored, so please sign and let the college know we care about our fellow classmates' dignity.
