Sign the petition: Tell Congress to Restore the Voting Rights Act

Congress passed the Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965 to end discriminatory voting laws that denied communities of color - especially African American and Latino communities — the right to vote. But in 2013, the Supreme Court stripped a key provision from the Voting Rights Act, taking away one of the strongest tools we have to block discriminatory voting laws.

Congress must restore the VRA and stop states from implementing discriminatory voter ID and voter suppression laws. Our democracy is in jeopardy — we need you speak now. Tell Congress to protect our democracy and restore the Voting Rights Act!
In 2013 the Supreme Court gutted a central provision of the Voting Rights Act, paving the way for dangerous and discriminatory voter laws in states like North Carolina and Wisconsin. Right now there is bipartisan legislation that would restore the Voting Rights Act and block new efforts to suppress minority voters. We must allow this legislation to come to a vote.

I urge you to advance legislation that would restore the Voting Rights Act to its full power. ALL Americans deserve the right to vote -- and right now, discriminatory state laws are stripping that right away. Don't let your legacy be one of harmful discrimination.
