The Senate Must Pass Automatic Voter Registration

Right now, Americans have to opt-in to voting. It means a lot to our democracy when as many as 51 million eligible citizens are simply not registered. They are disproportionately low-income, people of color, and younger Americans — the very communities who are already underrepresented and need a voice.

Automatic voter registration would flip the script and have everyone registered by default. This simple and low-cost change could dramatically increase the number of people who are registered to vote. And if solutions like this exist, we should take them.

Earlier this year the U.S. House passed HR1 — the For the People Act which would overhaul our election system and shore up voting rights. A major piece of the bill: automatic voter registration.

But Mitch McConnell is refusing to hold a vote on the bill in the Senate. We're ramping up the pressure to force the U.S. Senate to hold a vote. Add your name to join the fight!
