Tell Rep. DeGraaf that Rape is NOT Like a Flat Tire

If Republicans get their way, women will have two options when it come to abortion; pay for it out of their own pocket or pay for an expensive insurance rider to cover it. Apparently, Representative Pete DeGraaf thinks that all women should pay for the insurance, just in case they're raped.

When asked to clarify his statement that women should always be prepared for an unplanned situation like rape, Rep. DeGraaf stated "I have a spare tire on my car."

A flat tire is an annoying and often inevitable part of owning a car, but rape is not an inevitable part of being a woman, and should never be treated as such. No woman should have to "plan ahead" in case of a terrible and devastating crime like rape.

If we cannot trust lawmakers to stand with us in our worst time of need, how can we trust them to make the best decisions for us?

Join us in demanding that Pete DeGraaf apologize to women everywhere for trivializing such a serious crime and to stop attacking women's reproductive rights.
I am shocked and appalled that you would compare a serious and debilitating crime like rape to an annoyance like a flat tire. Rape is a terrifying experience that no woman should ever have to "plan" for.

The poorest women in America are also the most likely to be sexually assaulted and expecting them to be able to "plan" ahead for a rape is ridiculous.

I demand an apology on behalf of all women for your callous and absurd comparison and I urge you to end your attack on women's reproductive rights.
