Trump Started Illegal War and Insulted UK, But British Government Still Plans to Send King on State Visit

The King of the United Kingdom, King Charles, is set to visit Trump in the US at the end of April. This is a horrible idea that around half of the British public opposes. As critics point out, the visit would both legitimize Trump's illegal war in Iran as well as heap honor upon a man whose name appears in the Epstein child abuse files more than 38,000 times.

As Ed Davey, the leader of the UK's Liberal Democrats, said: "The prime minister is showing a staggering lack of backbone by pushing ahead with this state visit [from the King] while Donald Trump treats our country with contempt."

The King's visit has been planned at the request of Prime Minister Keith Starmer's government, which means that Starmer's cabinet has the ability to cancel this farce. British governments use official monarch visits as a way to boost relationships with different countries. But as British politicians have been pointing out, Trump seems set on humiliating and criticizing the UK government - so why grovel to him by planning this visit?

Not only has Trump attacked Iran and started a war that violates both U.S. and international law - potentially kicking off World War III - but he has also insulted Britain in the process. He has called British aircraft carriers "toys" that he doesn't want or need. He also railed against the UK and other allies, saying they should go to the Strait of Hormuz (controlled by Iran) to "go get your own oil" because "the USA won't be there to help you anymore." This comes as nations around the globe are suffering from serious fuel shortages, which are directly due to Trump's attacks on Iran.

In addition to all that, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) has found that a 13-year-old child creditably accused Trump of sexual assault, which was documented in the Epstein files. These files, about Trump's former self-professed best friend, contain Trump's name more than 38,000 times. The U.S. has made zero new arrests in connection with the Epstein files, the crimes contained in it, and the adults associated with its criminal trafficking network.

This doesn't even include other reasons to steer clear of Trump, including his increasing use of ICE as a terrorizing force, and the escalating detentions of immigrants from around the world, including from European countries.

A whole chorus of British lawmakers have decried this upcoming visit, and residents agree. According to a poll by YouGov, approximately half of the British public oppose the King's planned state visit to the US. As Jake Atkinson, with the UK's Stop Trump Coalition, said: "The king's visit will serve as an endorsement of this illegal war, and Trump's constant disregard for international law."

For all these reasons and more, the UK's King Charles must not grace Trump with the honor of a state visit in April. The UK government under Prime Minister Keith Starmer must cancel this trip and denounce Trump's illegal war in Iran! Sign the petition!
