The Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption is a national, nonprofit public charity dedicated to finding safe, permanent families for children waiting in North America's foster care systems.
Every day, more than 50 young people age out of foster care in the U.S. without a permanent family. With no one to turn to for support, they face significantly higher risks of homelessness, unemployment and other challenges as they transition into adulthood.
The Foundation is working to expand its foster care adoption program, with a focus on serving children ages 9 or older, children with special needs and sibling groups who are too often overlooked. A five-year, national evaluation by Child Trends found that children referred to the Foundation's program are up to three times more likely to be adopted.
The Foundation is also helping remove barriers to adoption by increasing public awareness, advocating for adoption and foster care benefits in the workplace, and providing free resources for caregivers and child welfare professionals to support the adoption journey.
