Demand an an end to cruel puppy factories in New South Wales

Cramped, confined like battery hens, miserable, sickly, some cowering in fear in old portable water containers and all living in filth and squalor.

These are the conditions that puppies are born and bred into. Born to mothers that are overbreed and kept in small confined cages these animals are prone to disease and are often not vaccinated. In one case, as exposed by an undercover investigation by animal rights group Oscars Law - there was no fresh water anywhere for the animals. Neither was there warm, soft bedding, as is required by law.

Puppy farms are a deceiving name for these cruel factories, which appear to be in breach of multiple violations to the Animal Welfare Code of Practice.

But not only are there an estimated 200 facilities like it across the New South Wales, they are also legal. Once a council permit has been secured there is no renewal or registration needed - making it difficult to track just how many there are, and where they are. With no legal requirements for puppy farms to be registered and with no inspection procedures in place, once a permit is held, there is no way to control these backyard operators.

With all the loopholes in legislation there is no hope for these poor animals.

We must act now, and we must act fast. We can make a difference and we can help these defenseless animals.

Join me in signing this petition and sending a message to Mike Baird, the Premier of NSW that we demand to see strict restrictions on commercial breeders and our animals better protected.
