Alem is more than a number. She is one out of 79.5 million refugees.

Alem is from a country in East Africa, where people are persecuted, tortured and killed every day.

She can count herself as one of the lucky ones since she managed to escape. But the rest of her family remain there, terrified for their lives.

If they try to escape, they risk rape, torture, or abduction for ransom by human traffickers.

Join the Danish Refugee Council today by demanding world leaders commit to fight the root causes of displacement and treat people seeking refuge decently. Thank you.
