We are concerned about children around the world are being held in jail for indefinite periods of time. It is alarming that there is no confirmed record of the number of children imprisoned globally. Urgent action is needed, and we call on the UN to appoint a Special Reporteur for a five year period to deal specifically with this issue. We ask the Special Reporteur to pres the 192 signatories of the UN's convention on Rights of the Chlid to reduce the number of children held in prison, and to enforce the convention's legally binding obligations in the relation to the treatment of children in detention.
