Stand with Asylum-Seekers: Help Close the Camps!

Asylum-seekers from Central America have risked everything to protect their families from violence in their home countries. They have traveled thousands of miles to the U.S. in search of safety and asylum, only to be separated from their children, locked in cages, degraded through physical and verbal abuse, and denied access to basic necessities like water and a place to use the bathroom.

This is a blatant attack on human rights. Instead of welcoming migrants and refugees arriving at the border, these inhumane detention centers are at max capacity because of the Trump administration's "zero tolerance" policies in flagrant opposition to international human rights law. In response, the U.S. government is increasing the budget and spending tens of millions of dollars more to build new detention centers instead of funding and supporting community-based solutions that enable migrant families to be together and free.

Indefinite detention is not a solution for families and individuals fleeing for their lives.

The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee is working on the ground with grassroots coalitions to support asylum-seekers to access their rights, attain safety, and restore dignity.

To join their efforts, sign the petition today to protect the rights of migrants seeking asylum from pervasive violence in Central America, and urge Congress to close the camps now.
