Demand that you restore Fitzgerald Square to the waterfront park from which it was removed without citizen consultation or debate.

The name of Fitzgerald Square was removed without comment by the city on March 17, 2018. No explanation was given. The Square was named for Revolutionary War hero and Irish immigrant Col. John Fitzgerald who was George Washington’s aide-de-camp. Fitzgerald also founded St. Mary Catholic Church. This action on the city’s part is an insult to its Catholic population, the history of Alexandria’s “Old Town” , and those of Irish heritage.
