Stop Sex Trafficking in Cambodia

  • af: Concerned Citizens of the World

In the New York Times, Nicholas Kristof told the compelling story of Srey Pov from Cambodia who was sold to a brothel when she was six years old. There she was raped repeatedly, beaten and locked in cold, dirty cells and abused in almost every way possible. However, she was one of the lucky ones as she managed to escape her prison at the age of nine.

Unfortunately, stories like hers are as common as they come. This is a practice that is not restricted by age or gender as anyone is in danger of being sold into slavery for the purposes of sex exploitation.

Experts and government officials have no idea how many people are sold and forced into the sex trafficking industry. All we know is that the numbers are increasing at a rapid pace and something must be done.

Tell the Secretary- General of the United Nations, the King and Prime Minister of Cambodia and your government leaders that sex trafficking in Cambodia must be stopped. Tell them that you will not stand by as thousands and thousands of people are exploited in such a brutal and devastating way.

We the undersigned, demand that the sex trafficking in Cambodia be stopped. The policies and laws in place are not enough as the sex exploitation industry is only expanding. This is putting more and more people at risk. Cambodia, we ask that you increase your anti-sex trafficking resources as the current amount is clearly not enough. The United Nations and government leaders, we ask that you place the appropriate amount of pressure on Cambodia in order to ensure that change is made and that the sex trafficking industry is defeated.

This is a universal problem and we all must do whatever we can to stop sex exploitation.

Thank you.
