Asylum system leaves people waiting in the dark

People seeking asylum in the UK are fleeing war and persecution. Yet the system they rely on for safety all too often fails them. Almost half of all people waiting for a decision on their asylum claim wait longer than six months. Some can end up waiting years.

A severe lack of information and legal advice is leaving people in the dark and unable to make their case. And bad decision-making is putting lives at risk - one in three appeals of asylum claims result in original decisions being overturned.
If a third of decisions are wrong, how can anybody be expected to trust the system?
