Take Action to Improve Cancer Care!

Being diagnosed with cancer is hard enough. But far too often the side effects of cancer treatment go unmanaged, leaving many cancer patients feeling like "the treatment is worse than the disease."

With more than ten million cancer survivors in the U.S. today, it is critical that we improve cancer care at all points of treatment and follow-up. You can help by urging your representative to co-sponsor The Comprehensive Cancer Care Improvement Act (CCCIA), H.R. 1078.

The CCCIA would provide cancer care planning services for Medicare patients before, during and after cancer treatment, creating an opportunity for patients to participate in treatment decisions and get the care that is best suited for them from the time of diagnosis through the rest of their lives.

The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) believes strongly in this legislation and the positive impact it can have on millions of cancer survivors and our healthcare system as a whole. Please take action today to improve cancer care - sign our petition to urge your representative to co-sponsor CCCIA today!
Please Cosponsor H.R. 1078

Dear [Decision Maker],

Cancer survivors deserve quality care that is comprehensive and coordinated throughout their survival, and I urge you to cosponsor H.R. 1078, The Comprehensive Cancer Care Improvement Act (CCCIA), which would go a long way toward improving cancer care.

A major problem with cancer care is that the side effects of cancer treatment often go unmanaged. This is why many cancer patients say, "The treatment is worse than the disease." In addition, people completing cancer treatment have unique follow-up requirements that often are not addressed sufficiently.

[Your personal comment here: If you are a cancer survivor or are close to someone who is, describe how the cancer experience would have been greatly improved by better management of side effects and symptoms both during and after treatment.]

The CCCIA will improve cancer care by integrating primary therapy with management of cancer's symptoms and the side effects of treatment. The bill also creates a system for monitoring and coordination of a cancer survivor's post-treatment care.

H.R. 1078 has widespread bipartisan support as well as the endorsement of more than thirty leading cancer organizations and dozens of cancer centers across the country.

You have the ability to improve the quality of care provided to millions of Americans who are currently surviving cancer and who will be diagnosed with cancer in future years.

Please sign on as a cosponsor of H.R. 1078 and take an active part in improving the quality of life for the millions of cancer survivors and their loved ones who bravely face the challenges of battling and surviving cancer.

Sincerely,
