I love every dog — and every cat and rabbit too, which is why I can't look away from what investigators just found on a property in Cornell Township, Michigan.
Prosecutors say Kruzz Makosky, Brianna Makosky, and Nichole Jarvey kept animals in such deplorable conditions that when a search warrant was finally executed, officers found 13 cats crammed into the property — two of whom had just given birth to litters of 6 and 4 kittens — along with 12 rabbits, one of whom had also just given birth. Officers also found a sheep. And then they found the ones who didn't make it: dead cats, dead rabbits, dead pigs, and dead goats.
The three defendants are now each charged with eight counts of abandoning or committing cruelty resulting in the death of an animal, and one felony count of cruelty involving 25 or more animals — a charge that carries up to seven years in prison. A judge has already barred all three from owning animals while the case proceeds. That's a start. It is not justice.
Their next court date is set for August 13, 2026, in the 94th District Court. This is the moment a plea deal gets negotiated, or doesn't. This is the moment prosecutors decide whether "up to seven years" becomes a real sentence or a number nobody has to reckon with.
I'm asking Delta County Prosecuting Attorney Lauren Wickman to pursue the maximum penalty available under the felony cruelty charge, to resist any plea agreement that lets these three walk away with a slap on the wrist, and to make the no-animal-ownership order permanent regardless of how the criminal case resolves. Newborn kittens and baby rabbits died before they ever had a chance. The survivors — and every animal these three might acquire in the future — deserve a prosecutor who treats this as the felony it is.
