Stand Up to Save Dogs like Xena

When Xena arrived at Calgary Humane Society she was everything a four month old puppy should be. She was friendly, sweet and mischievous all rolled in to one adorable package — even though she had a badly broken front leg. Nobody knows for sure how Xena broke her leg, but when she arrived at the shelter it was clear she was in need of help.

When the results of her X-rays came back, the prognosis was poor. Xena would need an amputation to allow her to live a long, healthy and pain-free life. Animal Health scheduled Xena's surgery as quickly as possible in order to relieve her pain and developed a rehabilitation plan that would allow Xena to adapt to life on three legs. Post-surgery, she would also need round-the-clock-care. Several foster families stepped forward to provide Xena a second chance and soon she was on her way to a temporary home.

After several weeks with her foster family, Xena was ready to find a home of her own. Shortly after she moved up to the adoption floor she received a special visit from the person who would become her new mom. We could not have asked for a better home for this sweet pup.

Today, Xena is a bright, energetic and friendly 'teenage' dog who LOVES to run and play. This could not be possible without support from the community, including you.

From rescue teams, veterinarians, foster families, and willing animal lovers like you — Calgary Humane Society depends on the support of a lot of people coming together. Show that you will stand with Calgary Humane Society to help dogs like Xena thrive!
