Sign The Petition: Keep Firearms Out Of The Hands Of Domestic Abusers

Here’s the reality: more than half of the women killed with guns in the U.S. are murdered by their partners. Every month, 50 women are shot and killed in the U.S. by a current or former boyfriend or spouse. And the deadly mix of guns and domestic violence is exacerbated by America’s weak gun laws: women in the United States are 16 times more likely to be murdered with guns than women in other developed nations.

But it doesn’t have to be this way. We know that common sense gun laws will protect domestic violence victims and save lives. In states that require comprehensive background checks, 47 percent fewer women are shot to death by intimate partners.

The gun lobby refuses to support common sense changes that would reduce violence against women, but these laws just make sense. Congress needs to close the loopholes that make it easy for domestic abusers and stalkers to get guns without a background check.

Sign the petition now to tell Congress: Support common-sense gun laws to keep firearms out of the hands of domestic abusers and stalkers.
