Jeff Sessions - Don't Allow Discrimination Against Transgender Workers

Attorney General Jeff Sessions has decided to reverse federal policy to stand up for the rights of trans employees, arguing that the laws simply aren't on the books to grants transgender people these rights.

That's a strange stance to take, considering that the courts have repeatedly reaffirmed that existing civil rights laws do protect transgender people under sex discrimination provisions. While the DOJ is trying to portray it as if it has no choice but to make this decision, it's definitely a choice.

With Sessions saying the DOJ will be taking the side of employers rather than discriminated trans Americans, it's clear this policy is the result of transphobia and not an improved interpretation of the law.

Between dictating which bathrooms trans students can use, planning to ban transgender people from serving in the military and now giving bosses the freedom to terminate trans people because of their gender identity, Sessions is most definitely on an anti-trans crusade. We ask him to spare trans people the hurt - and not to mention the DOJ the embarrassment - of waging an ultimately losing battle in court by dropping this regressive plan.
