First-Time Parents Need All the Help They Can Get

"You're going to have a baby." It's a simple sentence -- but with it, your whole life changes. Now imagine life as a young girl living in poverty, maybe on her own, hearing those words for the first time.

When Holly was expecting her son Tony, she was 23 years old. She had dropped out of school with a 9th grade education and was living with friends in a house where nearly everyone smoked cigarettes. Her first reaction when she learned of her pregnancy? "I can use all the help I can get."

Some first-time parents don't have the knowledge or resources to confidently raise their children. But Holly was lucky enough to get help from Nurse-Family Partnership. Thanks to the support she received, she is a capable mother and Tony is happy and healthy.

When was it like when you or someone you loved became a first-time parent? Share your laughter and tears, from pregnancy through parenthood. What was the best support you or your loved one received?
