Help Girls Stay in School

Fourteen year old Saadatou wants to be a teacher when she grows up. She watched her older sisters drop out of school at ages 9 and 12, with the younger one married by the time she was eleven. Saadatou’s parents learnt about the importance of girls' education at community meetings run by Plan, and now Saadatou will not have to follow in her sisters’ footsteps.

85% of females in Niger are illiterate, compared to 57% of males.

With a poor education system, there is little to encourage parents to keep their girls in school, and many drop out to marry young, often with dire consequences. Plan works with parents, teachers and community leaders to make good schooling a priority.

We know that educated girls make better decisions about their health, their families and their futures. Join Plan in the effort to help get more girls in school, and to keep them there.
