Stand With Families Recovering from Typhoon Haiyan

Plan Canada staff member, Nickson Gensis, was on the ground when Typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines. Little could have prepared him for the devastation he would witness.

When the storm hit Gensis had taken refuge on the second floor of a house less than a few hundred metres from sea. It was here where he witnessed the house next to him get washed away.

Super Typhoon Haiyan has devastated the lives of millions of children and families. Thousands of people have lost their lives and officials fear the death toll will continue to rise.

After weathering the storm, Gensis went to work, traveling around the area to assess the damage to villages. "I realized as I was taking notes while talking to people that I was shaking."

People like Gensis are working every day to get clean drinking water, food, medical supplies and shelter to children and families who survived the typhoon, but they can't do it without our support.
