End Canada's Merciless Seal Hunt

Every year over 300,000 individual harp seals are brutally killed off the ice floors of Canada, most of them less then 12 days old.

These innocent seals are killed for their fur which is used to make fashion accessories in certain parts of Europe. The sealers are fishermen who engage in several fisheries throughout the year, and sealing revenues account for only about one twentieth of their total incomes, meaning that no one who participates in the hunt relies on it for their main income.
The Canadian government uses the excuse that it is trying to protect Canada’s cod stocks when infact only about 3% of a harp seals diet consists of commercially fished cod – harp seals also consume many significant predators of cod, including squid. Removing harp seals may mean an increase in cod predators.
The real cause of the dwindling fish populations is human overfishing.
One of the only ways to stop the seal hunt is by making it clear that people who oppose the hunt will not be visiting Canada and will not buy Canadian seafood while ever the hunt continues.

M.r Doug Fyfe,

We the undersigned strongly oppose Canada’s merciless seal hunt, and will not be visiting Canada or buying Canadian seafood while ever the hunt continues.
