Outlaw practice of cruel dog tethering

Show your support for a law that will outlaw the intense chaining of dogs in Nashville.

As residents and voters in Davidson County, we the undersigned, support legislation banning the tethering of dogs to stationary objects for prolonged periods of time.

We feel that such a law is necessary because studies have shown that tethering dogs is a danger to both dogs and humans.  According to a study published in the Journal Pediatrics, chained dogs are 2.8 times more likely to bite than a dog that is not chained.  Dogs are pack animals and thrive on social interaction, and a dog that is tethered cannot receive proper social interaction, which can lead to frustration and aggressive behavior.

We believe that tethering constitutes cruelty to animals and should be expressly banned in our community for the purpose of protecting the people and domestic animals who live therein.

Sincerely,
