Hear Incarcerated Voices by Supporting Prison Journalism

Writers and journalists behind bars have powerful stories to tell—stories that shed light on injustice, resilience, and the urgent need for change. Yet too often, their voices are silenced by lack of access to resources, training, and publishing opportunities.

Prison Journalism Project (PJP) works to change that. By providing incarcerated people with the tools, mentorship, and platforms they need to develop their skills and share their work, PJP is building one of the most important news beats in America: the lived experience of incarceration.

Supporting incarcerated writers is not just about freedom of expression—it's about strengthening democracy, expanding understanding, and ensuring that no one is invisible.

We call on policymakers, educators, and community leaders to protect and expand opportunities for incarcerated writers and journalists. Their perspectives matter, and their voices deserve to be heard.

Sign up for stories by incarcerated writers delivered straight to your inbox. Prison Journalism Project trains and publishes their work every week.
