We the undersigned do not agree with, want, or support a name change for Waukesha South's Mascot "Blackie" nor the Team name "Blackshirts"!

  • mottagare: Todd Gray Superintendent Waukesha School District

During the depression red dye was too expensive so Waukesha (South) High School's team shirts were dyed black because it was less expensive. The school's teams were dubbed the "Black Shirts". The school's mascot, a red cardinal, wears a black shirt with a white W on it. He was named Blackie strictly because of the black color of the teams uniform shirts.

We the undersigned do not want 50+ years of tradition pushed aside nor our school brand changed or altered. Blackie shall remain Blackie and the Blackshirts will proudly remain the Blackshirts! The undersigned are proud Alumni, South Family members past and present, concerned community members, and students. Each will be specified after their signature.
