Tell Rand Paul: Stop Attacking Older Americans and People with Disabilities

  • af: NCPSSM
  • mottagare: Rand Paul and the US Congress
The Republican-led House of Representatives has enacted an unprecedented legislative rule that would virtually guarantee that the Social Security disability trust fund becomes insolvent next year and that millions of Americans would face a 20 percent cut in their benefits.

Now presidential hopeful Senator Rand Paul is demanding even more radically destructive changes to the entire Social Security program, claiming (incorrectly) that at least half of those receiving Social Security Disability Income suffer only from anxiety and back pain.

Social Security is much broader than its Disability Income program, which has strict requirements for participation and is a vital lifeline for millions of Americans who are too incapacitated to work.

Social Security is a benefit that Americans have paid for through years of hard work, and it should be protected.

Don't let Congress rob older Americans and people with disabilities of the benefits to which they are entitled. Urge your Representative and Senators to oppose efforts to gut Social Security with falsehoods and legislative shenanigans.
Dear [Representative and Senators],

Recent changes have put the entire Social Security disability program at risk of insolvency, with millions of Americans facing a 20 percent cut in their benefits.

Worse still, Senator Rand Paul is now demanding even more destructive changes to the entire Social Security program, while claiming that many older Americans and people with disabilities are getting benefits they don't deserve.

But that's simply not true.

Social Security is a benefit that Americans have paid for through years of hard work, and it should be protected. Please, take action to protect Social Security and the benefits that Americans have worked their whole lives for.
