Obama: Support Love for Everyone!

Thousands of Americans still don't have access to the rights afforded by marriage or domestic partnership.

Next month, the Supreme Court will decide the constitutionality of Proposition 8, an LGBT rights case that could conceivably change the course of the entire country's fight for equality. President Obama hasn't asked his Solicitor General, Donald Verrilli, to take a stand in the case -- but it's not too late.

The Solicitor General's opinion carries considerable weight in the Supreme Court. Asking Verrilli to file a brief against Prop. 8 would show that President Obama recognizes the rights of all Americans to marry regardless of their sexuality.

President Obama made history by mentioning gay Americans in his Inauguration Day speech. But paying lip service isn't enough. Tell Obama to urge Verrilli to weigh in for equality -- so that next year, all Americans can celebrate together.
Valentine's Day is supposedly a holiday to celebrate love. But it's hard to be happy about romance when thousands of Americans are routinely denied the rights afforded by civil partnership and marriage.

You've said recently that you've "evolved" on the subject of same-sex marriage. But it's not enough to say that you support something without actually taking the most action you can.

By urging your Solicitor General, Donald Verrilli, to file against Proposition 8 in next month' s Supreme Court case, you will be effectively demonstrating your commitment to marriage equality for all Americans. Please tell Solicitor Verrilli to take a stand on behalf of same-sex marriage in Perry vs. Hollingsworth.
