FREE SARAH SHOURD

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP - SARAH IS FREE!

PLEASE GO TO
http://www.freethehikers.org/ AND HELP FREE SARAH'S FIANCE SHANE AND THEIR FRIEND JOSH URGENTLY!

On the 15th September, Sarah Shourd was released from Evin Prison, Iran, after spending nearly 14 months in solitary confinement.

Sadly, Sarah's freedom is bitter-sweet, as she leaves behind in prison her fiance Shane Bauer and their friend Josh Fattal, awaiting trial.

Sarah made the following televised statement:

"I feel myself I have a huge debt to repay the world for what it's done for me.

My first priority is to help my fiance Shane Bauer and my friend Josh Fattal to gain their freedom because they don't deserve to be in prison any more.

Even when that's finished, I feel like my work is just begun in repaying the world for what it's done for me.

I'm extremely grateful and I realise that there are many people in prison that don't have the kind of support that I've had.

Every innocent person in prison deserves the same support that I've received but I'm very humbled.

The more I learn about what people have done for me, what governments have done for me, the more I feel humbled and grateful and ready to be free in the world again and to give back what's been given to me."

Safe World will be continuing to help support and promote the campaign for the release of Shane and Josh.

Thank you again!

FREE SARAH CAMPAIGN

On July 31st, 2009, Sarah Shourd was abducted by Iranian border guards, while on holiday hiking with her boyfriend Shane Bauer and their friend, Josh Fattal, in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Iranian authorities claim that Sarah, Shane and Josh crossed the border into Iran. However, a 5-month investigation by The Nation magazine, concludes that they were kidnapped at gun-point in Iraq.

Solitary Confinment
Sarah is held in solitary confinement in Iran's notorious Evin prison.
She lives in a small cell measuring about 2 metres by 3 metres. To use the bathroom, she is forced to wear a blindfold and is escorted by guards.

Serious Health Condition
Sarah has a precancerous condition which may now have turned cancerous.
She has been denied medical access and has had no monitoring of her condition. She recently discovered a new lump in her breast. Read More

Denied access to a lawyer
Sarah has not been charged and has been denied access to a lawyer. The lawyer appointed by the families of the 3 prisoners recently requested that, on medical grounds, Sarah be transferred to the Swiss Embassy in Tehran. This request has been rejected.

The Campaign so far
In July this year, The Free Sarah Campaign organised a media tour,  to the UK and France, for Sarah's mother, Nora.
Nora visited the Iranian Embassy in London to deliver a letter to the Iranian Ambassador. Despite the presence of television cameras, the Iranian Embassy refused to take the letter.
The Free Sarah Campaign subsequently approached the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture, who issued an Urgent Appeal to the Iranian Authorities, following an application from the families. Read More

Dear Secretary-General Ban-ki Moon,

We, the undersigned, request your personal and immediate intervention to ensure that the United Nations does all within its power to demand that the Iranian Authorities release Sarah Shourd unconditionally as a matter of urgency.

Sarah Shourd, age 32, is innocent of any crime, has been held in solitary confinement in Iran for over a year without charge, may have developed cancer and is being denied medical treatment.

Thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this blatant breach of human rights.
