Tell JC Penney: No Dirty Gold From Alaska's Pebble Mine!
Past efforts to stop the Pebble Mine in the Bristol Bay area of Alaska has fallen on deaf ears. While high-end jewelry retailers (Tiffany & Co., Helzberg Diamonds and Fortunoff) have sworn off the "dirty gold" taken from this mine, there are other retailers who gladly sell jewelry made from this gold. The peril to native salmon runs are immediate and will end in their extinction. Please tell Myron E. Ullman, III that you want JC Penney to stop purchasing jewelry made from gold taken from Pebble Mine.

Dear Mr. Ullman:
We the undersigned respectfully request that your company seriously consider the long-term effects of selling jewelry made from %u201Cdirty gold%u201D taken from the Pebble Mine in Alaska. Despite the earnest efforts of citizens in that state, there are plans to exploit the rather finite gold resources at Pebble Mine.
While the fate of this mine (and the salmon runs that will become extinct should this mine go into full production) hang on the end result of a local initiative vote, we are counting on you to join with higher-end jewelry merchants who have already pledged to shun the jewelry made from %u201Cdirty gold%u201D from Pebble Mine.
Please do everything you can to help preserve the natural resources that can replicate by pledging here and now to refuse to sell any gold jewelry that finds it%u2019s source (in any percentage) in the Pebble Mine that threatens the very future of wild salmon in that region of Alaska.
Respectfully,
The Undersigned
