To establish an Off-Leash Dog Park in the city of Wenatchee. And to bring together all the dog lovers in the Greater Wenatchee Area.

***IMPORTANT INFORMATION***
In order to better understand if advertising, word of mouth, flyers, etc are effective it is important that all petition signatures include a name. All "ANONYMOUS" signatures will be deleted in the future. No personal information (email, address, etc) can be viewed; even by me. Once the petition is closed a computer generated email will be sent out but other than that i have no way to contact someone regarding this petition. So please answer the petition questions as completely as possible. This is the only way to make this petition a success. Thank you!
Please write the Wenatchee World (safety valve) and the cities of East Wenatchee & Wenatchee with your support of this project.
Good news! I have just had dog park petition postcards made which i've been handing out to various people and establishments. I am also in the works of getting a design made for a flyer and a logo. I'm hoping to get a business or a few people to help contribute to this then we can get a flyer in every business and every home! I know that the word has been spreading...but it's not enough. I believe that this method will get the attention of thousands of people. Also, i have made a new webpage for the Wenatchee Dog Park Petition. www.myspace.com/dogparkpetition! Please pass the word on to everyone you know - and become a friend of the Wenatchee Dog Park Petition on myspace. Thank You!
Many Kudos to The Wenatchee World for printing an article regarding our efforts to create an off leash dog park in the June 27th 2008 issue. For those of you who came to this website because of what you read let me personally thank you for taking an interest in this cause. Also, it was omitted that the Wenatchee Valley Humane Society and A Paw Above in Leavenworth have hard copies of this petition. So for those not computer savy or leary please go to one of those locations and sign our petition. But you can only leave comments through this website.
Some expectations of owners and proposed benefits of a dog park are:
* A dog park provides a safe environment for our dogs to play and exercise safely in an enclosed space.
* Having a designated space to exercise our dogs leads to fewer off-leash dogs in our community parks and trails - helping to prevent incidents with other park users (such as joggers and small children) and those who are fearful of dogs.
* A dog park provides our elderly and disabled owners with an accessible place to exercise their companions.
* Well-Socialized dogs turn into better canine citizens.
* Aggressive dogs would be progibited, and dogs demonstrating aggressive behavior must be removed immediately!
* Owners/handlers must stop their dogs from digging and immediately fill in all holes dug.
* Excessive barking would be prohibited. Dogs barking excessively would be prohibited (barking as a manner of play would be ok).
* Dog owners/handlers must be in the park and within view and voice control of their dogs at all times. The park would not be a babysitter for our dogs.
* To prevent disease and ensure the safety of our dogs they would need to be legally licensed and vaccinated, and wearing a visible dog license and rabies tag.
* Most importantly, cleaning up after our dogs and be willing to clean up poop left (by accident, or not) by other owners, we can significantly reduce potential health risks and maintenance issues caused by dog feces.
* Maintenance and policing would be done by a group of volunteers and the people who are using the dog park.
* I propose that 5 acres would be adequate for our needs. Some features I hope to have at our dog park are: a large grassy area for the dogs that like to fetch and run, a water feature for the water loving dogs, as well as trails, tunnels, bridges, art (designed by locals), and even shade and structures for the dogs to play in and on.
With this online petition and the hard copies we have over 2,000 signatures! This is fantastic but we still need your support and signatures. The more signatures and comments we get, the easier our work will be to get this accomplished; so tell your friends, family, anyone who cares about our city and our dogs! Please keep checking this website for updates and information pertaining to the Wenatchee Off-Leash Dog Park Petition! Furthermore, anyone wishing to help me with passing out flyers or gathering signatures, etc please email or message me at dogparkpetition@aol.com!
I hope to have a public informational meeting set up in the near future for anyone interested in the progress of our petition and ways to get the ball rolling...so keep checking back!
Thank You so much - Andre' Gerspach
