This petition responds to the pro-Polanski petition on behalf of various artists calling for the Swiss Government to release Roman Polanski. It urges the United States to actively pursue Polanski's extradition. It also urges the Swiss Government to expedite this extradition so that Polanski can be returned to United States and face justice
BE IT RESOLVED:
A. We, the undersigned petitioners, cannot believe that certain actors, producers, artists, directors, and government officials think it is acceptable for a middle-aged man to: (1) have sex with a 13-year old girl (the most generous view of Roman Polanski's conduct); (2) plead guilty to the crime, and then; (3) flee the country before he can be sentenced.
B. We, the undersigned petitioners, believe that it is incredibly bone-headed for these actors, producers, artists, directors, and government officials to publicly proclaim their position - even if it is sincerely held - because surely, at a minimum, they must know
someone who has a 13-year old daughter.
C. We, the undersigned petitioners, believe that the actors, producers, artists, directors, and government officials who (1) hold the position referenced in paragraph A and (2) have publicly proclaimed their position through signing a petition, writing an op-ed, speaking on television or near a reporter, or otherwise, lack the necessary judgment to be taken at all seriously on this subject.
THEREFORE:
We, the undersigned petitioners:
(1) Urge the Swiss Government to expedite the extradition of Roman Polanski (and ignore the actors, producers, artists, directors and government officials referenced above);
(2) Urge the United States Government to forcefully press for the extradition of Roman Polanski (and ignore the actors, producers, artists, directors and government officials referenced above);
(3) Urge Mr. Polanski to return to California and finally accept responsibility for conduct; and
(4) Urge the actors, producers, artists, and directors referenced above to concentrate their efforts on entertaining us; and
(5) Urge the government officials referenced above to concentrate their efforts on serving us.
