Reform CPS and Stop Child Abuse in NC

FACTS
In 2003, 16.4 thousand children aged 0-3 years fell victim to child abuse.
79.7% of the abusers are the childs parent.
30 children out of 113,557 died as a result of child abuse in 2003.
In a ten-year review of medical examiners' reports in North Carolina, it was found that state vital records under reported child deaths due to abuse by almost 60 percent.
In a 10-year study of hospital emergency departments across the country, it was found that "child abuse" accounted for 10.6% of all blunt trauma to patients younger than 5 years.
CPS doesn't even investigate almost 70% of reported and confirmed abuse injuries.
In every state, the following people are required by law to report suspected abuse: Doctors; nurses; dentists; mental health professionals; social workers; teachers; day care workers; law enforcement personnel. In some states, clergy, foster parents, attorneys, and camp counselors also are required to report abuse. In about 18 states, any person who suspects abuse is required to report it.

CONCLUSION
The situation is a bad, but there is hope. Not so long ago children were considered property. Abuse may be on the rise, but awareness is increasing. People can recover from childhood abuse, and many people are working to prevent abuse.
We the undersigned are asking you to please reform the laws protecting the Department of Social Services CPS workers. These children are our future, its our responsibility to make sure theyre treated fairly.
Child abuse and neglect is on the rise. But CPS workers in the state of NC are overloaded with many cases. They get confused and over worked which results in false information in reports, these reports can have a great impact on a child and even a family's life. And the CPS workers arent held accountable because theyre presumed to be in "good faith".
Some cases of abuse arent even reported. Sometimes the wrong person is held at fault because of improper investigations. Sometimes theres reported abuse when the child honestly had an accident and this causes children to get ripped away from loving families and placed in foster homes with complete strangers. This causes alot of mental and emotional damage to all parties envolved.
I think CPS workers should be held accountable for their reports and testimony. They should do detailed investigations and interview all sources that have knowledge of the abuse or accident. They should have to state facts and not guess at what they think is the truth. Ultimately they should be held responsible if they took a child that should not have been taken away from its parent.
