Check to see if the products you're buying is environmentally friendly

Ever considered whether or not the products you use are environmentally friendly? It’s always good to keep the earth’s health in mind as you buy products because we want to help our environment not make it worse. For starters, you can definitely check out websites such as skin deep and safe cosmetics. It informs you about each product whether it’s a conditioner, lipstick, or any type of fragrance, and the harmful chemicals within those ingredients. Alongside having an avoid section for the bad chemicals they also have a section to look for that has natural based ingredients.
Microbeads have been banned in the U.S. and other countries are following in their footsteps. Why? Before I get to the why let me explain what microbeads are. Microbeads are small plastic balls used in face scrubs and toothpaste. They are so small that when they go down the drain the water filter treatments aren't able to filter them out due to their size. Which leads to them entering our rivers, lakes, and oceans. This ends up affecting the marine life and food chain. With the consumption of these tiny beads the aquatic animals won’t be able to eat their prey and eventually die of starvation. This harmful impact on our aquatic life had multiple states ban the use of microbeads in any product. Now our whole country banned it as well.
Another problem that came up was the use of sunscreen. Sure it does a pretty good job with protecting our skin but it does the exact opposite to our environment. With having negative effects. Coral reefs are exposed to 14,000 tons of sunscreen that washes off our bodies. Why is that a bad thing you may ask? Many sunscreen bottles carry a synthetic chemical called oxybenzone. Oxybenzone damages the coral’s DNA and also affect their reproductive growth. Another thing to add onto this would be the bleaching of the coral reefs and also their mortality on developing.
If you don’t know what to look out for, definitely check out skin deep and safe cosmetics. Instead of using products that could be potentially harmful use more environmentally friendly alternatives. Although products may benefit humans(with the sunscreen example) the improper disposal may harm the environment. All I'm asking is next time you go out and decide to buy a product please look at the ingredients and watch out for harmful chemicals. Get the app think dirty and scan items to see the possible harm chemicals.
