Mexico, Stop Allowing Migrant Abuse

The Mexican government has failed to keep its promise of protecting migrants who travel through Mexico. According to Amnesty International, human rights abuses of migrants are rampant as migrants and those who support them are kidnapped, murdered and tortured on a regular basis. One migrant shelter owner was even threatened by members of the Mexican police and the military. Furthermore, a report conducted by the National Human Rights Commission stated in early 2011 that in six months, over 11,000 migrants had gone missing.

Such failure by the Mexican government is unacceptable as migrants face continued threats during their travels throughout the country. What makes matters worse is that these kidnappings and murders of migrants are not simply done at the hands of criminals, but by members of Mexican authorities.

Tell the government of Mexico that this is unacceptable and they must provide more protection for migrants.

We the undersigned demand that the government of Mexico fulfill its promise of implementing more protection for migrants. Migrants constantly face threats of kidnapping, murder and extortion when travelling through Mexico. This includes threats from Mexican authorities such as members of the police and the military. Thousands of migrants are taken advantage of every year and this must stop. This is unacceptable as migrants have human rights and deserve to be protected.

Please show the world that the government of Mexico is a protector of human rights and will not allow this blatant abuse of migrants to continue to happen.

Thank you.
