Reinstate Clarenceville Custodians
The school board in a 4-3 vote decided to fire its custodial staff (when they offered huge concessions to help with the budget) and replace them with a for profit company that has promised a savings of 1.2 million over 3 years. Simply dividing that savings equals about 45,000 per employee per year. One word, impossible. Words to our school board, reinstate the people we know and trust to be around our children and resume negotiations
We the signers of this petition, as citizens, taxpayers and voters, oppose the board's decision to privatize/outsource the custodial staff at our schools. We demand that the board reverse its decision immediately, restore their jobs, and resume negotiations. The safety of our children, the cleanliness of our buildings, and the districts dedication to the children and its own employees is vital for the success of our community. The custodial and other support staff are on the whole members of the community and have a huge stake in the local economy, future growth, and quality of a student's whole education. It is crucial that the board understand that all employees of the district play a role in a child's education and that each of these positions remain under the direct control of the public. A child's education and the people that interact with our children should not be seen as a commodity to be leased or sold to the lowest bidder. These should be held in the public trust that you have been elected to protect.
